Iโm 5โ tall with small hands, which limits the size of pistol I can shoot. But also REALLY limits what I can conceal on my body.
Torso real estate is a legit thing when it comes to concealed carry, and I have very little. Maybe a couple of inches between my belly button and my ๐.
In the winter, I usually carry a Glock 48 MOS, which is a skinny Glock 19. In the spring and summer, I switch to a Glock 43, which is the perfect size but has an outdated capacity.
Why would I even want to carry a bigger gun?
Good question.
Partially because I can carry more rounds. But mostly because I shoot a bigger pistol more accurately.
The smaller sub-compacts and micro-compacts are notoriously snappy to shoot because of the recoil. Even with small hands, some of the subs and micros feel terrible in the hands.
When I carry on-body, thereโs no compromise because of my size, though, so I had to come up with another solution.
Off-body carry is OK as long as you do it safely.

Carrying off-body is never my first choice, but Iโve been testing some methods for the last few years.
A fanny pack is the least worst way, in my opinion. I like to wear it slung across my chest, but around your waist works too.
I have a few different setups, but the one that works for my bigger carry pistols (Walther PDP-F and Springfield Echelon 4.0C) is this 945 Industries QAPL bag in large.
Inside, I have a NeoMag Alias panel and a Blacksmith Tactical holster. Sturdy and easy to draw from.
Like anything else, you need to practice your draw a lot if youโre going to carry off-body. Make sure the bag has a completely separate pocket for your gun, and always use a Kydex holster.
